I began practicing oncology in 1989, and the past several decades have gone by quickly. Most of my career was spent in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, where I served as Medical Director of the CaroMont Cancer Center.

Throughout my time in clinical practice, I’ve worked to bring practical, well-tolerated lifestyle and metabolic interventions alongside standard therapies, tools like balance training, nutrition adjustments, supplements, repurposed medications, portable oxygen, exercise bands, and sleep optimization. Though diverse, these approaches share the same traits: they’re safe, accessible, affordable, and supported by science.

In 2019, I transitioned away from large cancer-center practice following vision loss from congenital retinitis pigmentosa and was formally designated legally blind. With my family’s support, I returned to Notre Dame for on-campus business training, graduating in 2020.

My capstone project helped launch Care Oncology, a virtual clinic combining metabolic therapies with standard cancer care. After its merger with a larger organization, my colleague Travis Christofferson and I founded Metabolic Care (formerly Meakin Metabolic Care) in 2022, a more agile, patient-centered model designed to make metabolic care more efficient and affordable. Today, we’re expanding our reach through a partnership with Heal Navigator and bringing on new Physicians every month to support our growth.
